At Waverly VFW Post 1272, our commitment goes far beyond meetings and memorials. We provide meaningful services and programs that make a difference in the lives of veterans, their families, and the community we call home.
Whether you're navigating VA benefits, in need of housing assistance, or seeking a sense of community, we're here for you. While our local post offers personal camaraderie and connection, the national VFW organization provides a wealth of tools and services available to all veterans.

Crisis Assistance & Outreach
We recognize the challenges many veterans face after returning from service, especially around mental health, PTSD, and homelessness. While we may not be equipped to provide direct clinical support, we are proud to connect veterans with trusted resources through the national VFW and local VA offices.
If you or a veteran you know needs help, please don’t wait. Click the floating button on any page of our site to reach support services immediately.

Veterans Helping Veterans
Post 1272 members are deeply committed to each other's well-being. Many of our longtime members participate in:
1
Sick Call & Hospital Visits
When illness or loss touches one of us, it touches us all. Please let us know if you or a comrade are facing hardship. We are here to support you—whether it's a listening ear, a helping hand, or honoring a life well-lived. Your courage in reaching out allows us to stand together. Remember: No veteran ever walks alone.

Funeral Honors & Color Guard Ceremonies
We honor the fallen with dignity and pride. Our color guard participates in memorials, parades, and funeral services to ensure our brothers and sisters in arms are remembered with the respect they deserve.
3
Mentorship & Check-ins for fellow vets
Sometimes the most powerful support is a simple conversation. Post 1272 members look out for each other through casual check-ins, mentoring new members, and fostering a strong sense of community and connection.
Being part of our post means showing up for your fellow service members, just as you did in uniform.
Youth & Advocacy Initiatives
We believe in building a legacy by supporting the next generation. Waverly VFW Post 1272 proudly participates in national VFW youth programs, including:
1
Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest
High school students compete by recording a 3–5 minute speech on a patriotic theme. Winners can earn scholarships at the local, state, and national levels—up to $35,000! It’s a powerful way for youth to explore the meaning of democracy in their own voice.
2
Patriot's Pen Youth Essay Contest
We believe in giving back through service projects, scholarships, and events that strengthen the bonds between veterans and the local community.Middle school students (grades 6–8) submit a written essay on a patriotic topic for a chance to win awards and scholarships. This national VFW program encourages students to reflect on American values and their role as citizens.
3
Scholarship Opportunities For Local Students
We believe in investing in the future. Post 1272 provides scholarships to deserving local students who demonstrate leadership, community service, and a strong sense of civic pride.
Our members also regularly visit local schools to share stories and educate students about the meaning of service and patriotism.
The Buddy Poppy Program
Since 1922, the Buddy Poppy has stood as a symbol of support for veterans and remembrance for the fallen. Post 1272 proudly participates in this national initiative each year, distributing poppies and raising funds that go directly toward veteran care and relief efforts.

Community Outreach & Service
We believe strong communities and strong veterans go hand in hand. Our post supports and volunteers with:
1
Local youth sports teams and school events
We proudly support Belmont’s young athletes and students by sponsoring teams, attending games, and showing up for school events. Whether it's Little League or Veterans Day assemblies, we’re there to cheer them on.
2
Community cleanups and flag dedications
You’ll find Post 1272 members volunteering around town—planting flags, maintaining public spaces, and participating in local cleanups. It's one small way we continue to serve and beautify the community we love.
3
Partnerships with civic organizations
We team up with local groups, nonprofits, and town departments to support shared causes and strengthen our network of service. Together, we create a more connected and resilient Belmont.
4
Function hall rentals for local nonprofits and events
