Buddy Poppy Program

Honoring the Dead by Helping the Living

The VFW Buddy Poppy, a small red flower is a powerful symbol of remembrance and support for our nation's heroes.

  • Inspired by Sacrifice: The poppy's connection to veterans began during World War I, blooming on the battlefields of Flanders and captured in the heartfelt poem "In Flanders Fields".
  • A Symbol of Remembrance: The VFW adopted the poppy as its official memorial flower in 1922.
  • Helping the Living: What makes the Buddy Poppy unique? It's assembled by disabled and needy veterans in VA rehabilitation centers, providing them with meaningful work and income.
  • Supporting Veterans: Proceeds from Buddy Poppy donations directly fund veteran welfare and assistance programs, including support for the VFW National Home for Children.
  • Honoring Their Service: When you wear a Buddy Poppy, you honor those who have sacrificed for our freedom and directly support veterans in need.
